This course explores today’s most pressing environmental challenges through the lens of environmental economics, drawing on recent advances in both applied economics and the natural sciences. The class surveys topics ranging from climate impacts and adaptation, agriculture, biodiversity, natural disasters (e.g., wildfires, flooding), pollution, renewable energy and permitting, and water resource management—emphasizing how each issue connects to climate change. By the end, students will be prepared to evaluate tradeoffs between economic growth and environmental stewardship, and to explore policy solutions that address these global concerns.
