Modern generative AI systems can produce essays, code, and images nearly indistinguishable from human-created content. This technology is poised to reshape how we work, learn, and interact, all while raising significant policy challenges. DPI-681 is a semester-long, extended version of the half-semester DPI-681M module, providing deeper technical foundations, more hands-on practice, and comprehensive case studies on real-world policy applications of generative AI. The course also features project-based assignments that go beyond what is offered in the half-semester version of the class. Students will engage with issues of algorithm design, implementation, and evaluation by building and critically assessing AI-powered applications tailored specifically to policy contexts. Prior programming experience is recommended to fully benefit from the course’s applied components.
