Abstract

The Los Angeles fires have left dozens of people dead and destroyed homes and commercial properties valued in the tens of billions of dollars. With climate change amplifying their intensity and frequency, the risks in fire-prone regions will only increase. For those who do not live in the western United States, the long-distance transport of smoke from wildfire also results in dramatic public health and economic costs.
