Event Description: In what is shaping up to be a close vote, the UN Human Rights Council will soon decide whether to renew the mandate of the Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). This will be the third time the mandate has come up for renewal since its creation in 2015, and the outcome will significantly impact future UN engagement on SOGI issues. Join us for a timely and focused webinar that breaks down the technical aspects of the renewal process, the roles played by various UN member states, and what’s at stake in the weeks ahead. With expert analysis from advocates and others with deep understanding of the process, this session aims to demystify the process and spotlight how civil society can respond.
